At ABCD Daycare, we love getting outside. Outdoor play gives children space to move, explore, and reset, while building strong bodies, confident minds, and happy friendships. Fresh air and sunshine aren’t just fun… they’re part of the curriculum.

Why Outdoor Play Matters

Outdoor activities help children develop:

  • Gross motor skills (running, climbing, jumping, balance)

  • Confidence and independence through exploration

  • Problem-solving as they navigate new challenges

  • Social skills through group games and shared play

  • Curiosity about the world: nature, weather, and how things work

What Outdoor Activities Can Look Like

Depending on the day and season, outside time may include:

  • Playground and free play

  • Group games and movement activities

  • Nature walks and simple outdoor discoveries

  • Bubbles, chalk, and creative outdoor play

  • Seasonal fun and themed outdoor activities

Weather Policy

We plan to go outside every day, unless it’s below 32°. Even in cooler weather, fresh air is great for kids, so please send your child dressed appropriately for the day.

What to Bring

Outdoor play is active (and sometimes messy), so we recommend:

  • Comfortable clothes that can get a little dirty

  • Weather-ready layers and closed-toe shoes

  • A labeled extra set of clothes kept at school

Outdoor time is one of the best parts of the day, where kids get to be kids, move their bodies, and learn through real-world play.
